Special Appeal for Building
After consultation with parents and Tribal leaders the Hostel Learning programme was started with 60 children, providing accommodation, food, uniforms and medical care as well as education. It has now become well known amongst the Tribal community. More than half are girls and many come from dysfunctional homes where study is not a priority.
Our teachers have developed a syllabus and methods more appropriate to Tribal children. As well as formal education, there is much singing and dancing, drama, sports, role model seminars and visits from Tribal leaders. The children have visited cities for the first time and other Tribal schools. They regularly perform dance and drama at local festivals, street theatre and health education in Tribal villages in their own languages, showing to themselves, their parents and the Tribal community what can be achieved. These activities keep the children in touch with their Tribal heritage and develop self confidence and self esteem. The children have blossomed under our care and nurture and have started to develop their full potential.
We have made use of our existing buildings so far, however these are insufficient and to provide better facilities and meet new government norms, it is essential to put up another building to ensure the continuation of our programmes.
The estimated cost for this will be around 95 lakhs (115497 gbp)
